Get Involved This Fall with Capital Health Plan

As a local health plan loyal to the Big Bend area, Capital Health Plan (CHP) enjoys a strong connection with the community. With our upcoming support for Tallahassee-Leon County’s Family Day, the Big Bend Heart Walk, the Turkey Trot, and the Winterfest we hope to see our members out having fun and staying healthy by being active in the community.

Family Day
The first-ever Family Day will be held on Friday, Nov. 26. Family Day was created with the idea of a celebration of family togetherness, support, and love following Thanksgiving’s day of reflection and gratitude. Family Day will bring the community together at the Railroad Square Art District from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Local businesses across the county, including CHP, will be hosting games, food, and tons of family fun. CHP will be showcasing its new Individual and Family Plans during the Family Day festivities. For more information, visit Tallahassee-Leon County Family Day.

Tallahassee Turkey Trot
The Turkey Trot Festival is making its comeback as a family tradition this year after it went virtual amid the pandemic last year. So let’s get together again at Goodwood Gardens on Sunday, Nov. 20, from 1:30-5:00 p.m. The Tallahassee Turkey Trot will offer a 1-mile, 5K, 10K, and 15K race. Even if you are not participating in the race, you can come out to support the community or your loved ones who are running, while enjoying music by the Hot Tamales, exhibitors including CHP, and more! Suzi, this needs to be corrected – the festival is to pick up race packets; the event is Thanksgiving Day at Southwood. Please update.

Heart Walk
CHP encourages its members to join us in the fight against cardiovascular diseases during the Big Bend Heart Walk, which will be held on Saturday, Dec. 4. The event, hosted by the world’s leading voluntary health organization, The American Heart Association, unites the community to not only save lives but have fun and build a foundation for healthy lifestyles. Beginning at 7:30 a.m. The Big Bend Heart Walk will follow a 3-mile route through Summit East Technology Park, 2073 Summit Lake Dr. The Big Bend Heart Walk will offer a mask-friendly environment, encouraging attendees to be vaccinated. Masks will be mandatory for unvaccinated walkers, and those who are vaccinated will have the choice of whether to wear a mask. For more information, visit the 2021 Big Bend Heart Walk.

WinterFest
Come out and join CHP at WinterFest, a family-friendly community event celebrating lights, music, and the arts! The Winter Festival will kick off in Downtown Tallahassee on Saturday, Dec. 4, from 3:00-10:00 p.m. Join your neighbors for art exhibits, entertainment, and local vendors. As part of WinterFest, the annual Jingle Bell Run will take place at 6:15 p.m., starting at the corner of South Monroe and Park. The night will close with the Nighttime Holiday Parade featuring floats and holiday cheer. For more information, please visit Winter Events in Tallahassee.

After so many unprecedented issues and challenging times, we’re incredibly excited for our Tallahassee community to unite again. Lead a healthy, active lifestyle while supporting our Big Bend community by joining us at Family Day, the Tallahassee Turkey Trot, the Big Bend Heart Walk, and WinterFest. We look forward to seeing you there!
