Make the most of the new year by resolving to lower your risk of disease, decrease your stress, and increase your energy.
Consider these 5 strategies from the National Institute of Health for improving your health and make 2026 your best year yet:
- Get active! Experts recommend at least 150 minutes of moderate physical activity per week for most adults. Sitting too much has been linked to many medical problems, so move more and sit less for your health. Every minute counts.
- Build muscle! By building and maintaining muscle, you can keep up the activities you enjoy at every stage of your life. Plan to strength train all your major muscle groups at least 2 days per week.
- Find your healthy weight! Take charge of your weight and your health. Keeping your body at a healthy weight can lower your risk of certain cancers, heart disease, and type 2 diabetes.
- Eat a healthy diet! Make smart choices when it comes to deciding what to eat and to feed your family. A healthy eating plan limits unhealthy food such as sugar, salt, and saturated fat and includes a variety of healthy food such as vegetables, fruits, lean protein, and high fiber options.
- Build healthy habits! Make healthy choices every day for lasting change. If you have already tried to eat better, get more exercise, quit smoking, or reduce stress, you know it’s not easy. Making one healthy choice at a time increases your chance of creating and sustaining a healthy lifestyle.
