Medicare Annual Election Period (AEP)
This time of year is always exciting as we all eagerly welcome cooler weather, football season (admittedly a bit different this year), and anticipation of the holiday season.
Special Enrollment Period for Medicare
In the memorandum issued by CMS, the agency stated that the SEP is applicable and available for beneficiaries who were eligible for, but unable to make, an election because they were affected by the ongoing public health crisis. All states, tribes, territories, and the District of Columbia (D.C.) are covered by this SEP beginning March 1, 2020, and ending June 30, 2020.
Open Enrollment Period
Starting January 1, 2019, there will be an Open Enrollment Period (OEP) that will allow Medicare beneficiaries to make “like plan” changes until March 31, 2019. This is not just an extension of the Medicare Annual Election Period (AEP) which is between October 15th and December 7th each year. The AEP dates remain unchanged.
